Matthias D. Gill
In 2009, I quit my job and went off on my own and created The Gill Law Firm. Since starting off on my own, my practice has been dedicated to the representation of accident victims, individuals victimized by their government or government officers, and normal working people who have encountered significant challenges in their lives that have required legal action.
I live in the South Chicago suburbs and I am a lifetime native of the Chicagoland area. I graduated with a Bachelors of Science in Biology from the University of Illinois at Champaign/Urbana in 2001. I then studied law at the DePaul college of Law in Chicago, Illinois where I graduated in 2004. I took the July 2004 bar examination for the state of Illinois, passed, and was sworn in as an attorney in Illinois the same year. I am also a member of the trial bar of the United States District Court for the Northern District of Illinois. I am equally skilled with the Federal Rules of Civil Procedure, the local rules of the Northern District, and the Illinois rules for our state courts.
Prior to starting my firm, I gained experience working for excellent mentors as defense counsel and plaintiff’s counsel in a civil litigation environment. I have tried dozens of cases to jury verdict and through bench trials. I also handled all aspects of plaintiffs’ litigation, appeals, and motion practice on cases involving automobile accidents, workers’ compensation actions, third-party liability pertaining to work accidents, medical negligence, civil rights violations, and premises liability actions. I have settled over 95% of my cases favorably through negotiations and pre-trial conferences. My work more recently representing prisoners and victims of police brutality in Federal Court has been a very rewarding experience.
Working for corporations and insurance carriers is not for me. I found that I needed to be working with and for people in order to have a fulfilling professional life.
I make a point to be the most accessible attorney that I can be for my clients. Every client has access to my cell phone number. I do my very best to return calls promptly. It is my plan to keep my firm small and tightly managed so that I can provide you and your case with the attention you deserve.
I am an aggressive trial attorney, yet I make sure that I remain humble and agreeable to all clients, other attorneys, and judges. I have found a personal recipe of being reasonable, balanced, and vigilant achieves the best results for my clients.
